Description

1928 Indian Head $2.50 Gold Piece, PCGS MS-64+. This attractive example of the 1928 quarter eagle represents a significant offering from the final years of the Indian Head $2.50 gold series. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a mintage of 416,000 pieces, the 1928 is notably scarcer in higher grades than its immediate predecessors of 1926 and 1927. The PCGS Plus designation indicates exceptional eye appeal within the MS-64 grade, reflecting superior strike quality and luster characteristics that elevate this specimen above typical examples of the issue. The 1928 quarter eagle is particularly elusive in MS-64 condition, with relatively few specimens encountered at this grade level despite the respectable original mintage. Gems grading MS-65 or finer are genuinely scarce, and examples above MS-65 can be considered quite rare. This coin exhibits the well-struck, frosty surfaces and excellent luster typical of the finest 1928 specimens, with light to medium gold coloration characteristic of the date. The reeded edge and 18mm diameter are consistent with the series specifications, and the coin contains 90% gold with 10% copper composition totaling 4.18 grams. PCGS Certification: 55900878
