Description
1929 Philadelphia $2.50 Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle, PCGS MS-64. This 1929 $2.50 Indian Head quarter eagle from the Philadelphia Mint represents a significant example of the final year of this classic series designed by Bela Lyon Pratt. Struck from a composition of 90% gold and 10% copper, this piece exhibits the characteristic rich yellow gold coloration with greenish tint typical of the issue. The coin displays excellent lustre and a generally well-executed strike, though some minor die buckling at the borders is occasionally noted on examples from this date. The MS-64 grade is particularly noteworthy for the 1929 date. While lower-grade specimens in MS-63 or below are relatively obtainable from the mintage of 532,000 pieces, the 1929 stands as the major condition rarity among the later-date Indian Head quarter eagles. Gem examples at MS-65 and above are considerably scarcer than other late issues in the series, with superb examples at MS-67 representing significant rarities in the marketplace. This certified example represents the upper tier of availability for this challenging date. PCGS Certification #25243279 confirms the grade and authenticity of this important pre-1933 gold coin. With a current market valuation of approximately $1,300, this piece offers strong appeal to collectors of American gold coinage and those seeking quality examples of the final years of this beloved design.
