Description

# 1928 Indian Head $2 1/2 Gold Quarter Eagle. A stunning Gem Uncirculated example of the sought-after 1928 Indian Head Quarter Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint, graded PCGS MS-65. This beautifully preserved gold coin represents a scarce issue in high-grade condition, with only 38 pieces graded higher out of a total of 433 specimens examined. Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, this exquisite coin features the distinctive incuse design characteristic of the Indian Head gold series. Struck in 90% gold with a total mintage of 416,000, the piece exhibits light to medium gold coloration with a subtle greenish tint. The coin displays exceptional frosty surfaces and remarkable mint lustre, typical of the finest examples from this challenging vintage. Numismatically significant, the 1928 Quarter Eagle is notably more elusive in gem conditions compared to its contemporaries. Specimens of MS-64 quality and above are considerably rare, making this PCGS MS-65 example a particularly desirable addition to any advanced gold coin collection. The piece showcases exceptional strike quality, with minimal striking anomalies and excellent overall preservation.
