Description
1854 Gold Dollar, Type One. This 1854 Gold Dollar represents the first type of this popular early American gold coinage, issued during the height of the California Gold Rush era. The Type One Gold Dollar, produced from 1849 to 1854, features Lady Liberty on the obverse and an eagle wreath on the reverse, designed by Chief Engraver James B. Longacre. As one of the smallest circulating gold denominations of the period, these coins were produced in significant quantities but remain highly collectible today. The present example has been certified by NGC as MS-64, indicating a well-preserved specimen with excellent eye appeal and minimal wear. At this grade level, the coin displays strong luster and sharp detail throughout, with only minor imperfections consistent with the grade. The 1854 date falls within the final year of Type One production, making it a desirable terminal-year issue for collectors assembling complete type sets or specialized collections of early gold dollars.
