Description
1950 50C Franklin Half Dollar, PCGS MS-67. This exceptional 1950 Philadelphia Half Dollar represents a significant example from the early Franklin Half Dollar series and marks an important moment in U.S. Mint history. Struck in the first year of resumed Proof production following World War II, this coin showcases the artistry of designer John R. Sinnock, whose iconic Franklin portrait graced the reverse of half dollars from 1950 through 1963. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams with a diameter of 30mm and reeded edge. With a Philadelphia mintage of 51,386 pieces, the 1950 half dollar was produced during a period of renewed collector enthusiasm and economic recovery. The 1950 Proof Set exceeded 50,000 units—a record-breaking mintage that far surpassed all previous production levels, reflecting both improved economic conditions and heightened collector interest. Graded PCGS MS-67 (Certificate #58367277), this example exhibits outstanding eye appeal characteristic of early Franklin Half Dollars. The population data indicates 120 examples graded higher, with 279 total certified, placing this specimen in the upper tier of the grade distribution. Most 1950 Proof Half Dollars display a brilliant finish, with fewer than ten percent showing Cameo characteristics and only a handful achieving Deep Cameo status. This is a desirable example of an early-date Franklin Half Dollar with strong eye appeal and solid fundamentals for the series.
