Description
1935-S Buffalo Five Cents, MS67 PCGS. This exceptional 1935-S nickel represents a significant offering from the San Francisco Mint's Buffalo nickel production. Designed by the renowned James Earle Fraser, this five-cent piece exhibits the classic composition of 75% copper and 25% nickel that characterizes the entire series. The coin displays the characteristic grey brilliant luster typical of San Francisco issues from this era. The 1935-S is notably scarcer in Gem Mint State condition than its counterparts from 1931, 1936, and 1937, making high-grade examples increasingly difficult to locate. Despite a mintage of 10,300,000 pieces, the survival rate of well-preserved specimens remains limited. The strike quality is respectable for a San Francisco issue, though some weakness occasionally appears on examples from this mint. This particular specimen achieves a commendable PCGS grade of 67, placing it among the finest known examples. Population data reflects the rarity of this issue in this grade, with only 17 coins graded at this level by PCGS. The combination of the 1935-S's relative scarcity in high grades, strong luster, and exceptional preservation makes this an attractive addition to advanced Buffalo nickel collections. PCGS Certification #40684699.
