Description
1936-S Buffalo Nickel, PCGS MS67. This 1936-S Buffalo nickel represents a significant example from the final years of James Earle Fraser's iconic series. Struck at the San Francisco Mint with a mintage of 14,930,000 pieces, this particular specimen has been graded PCGS MS67, placing it among the finer examples of this date and mint combination. The PCGS population data indicates only 32 examples have been certified in higher grades, with 148 total graded specimens across all grades, underscoring the relative scarcity of Gem Mint State examples. The coin exhibits the sharp strike characteristic of San Francisco Mint Buffalo nickels from this period, with excellent detail throughout the design elements. The surfaces display the typical grey brilliant luster associated with well-preserved examples from this mint, enhancing the overall eye appeal. As the scarcest of the 1936-1938 non-variety issues in Gem Mint State condition, this date has become increasingly sought after by Buffalo nickel specialists and type collectors alike. Specifications: 75% copper, 25% nickel composition; 5.0 grams; 21.2mm diameter; plain edge. PCGS Certificate #49470781.
