Description
1946-P Walking Liberty Half Dollar, MS67 PCGS. This exceptional example of the final era Walking Liberty half dollar represents one of the key dates in the series' closing years. The 1946 Philadelphia issue is recognized as the rarest of the 1941-1947 production run, with only 12,118,000 pieces minted. This specimen has achieved an impressive MS67 grade from PCGS (Certification #56208649), placing it among the finest examples certified, with only 3 coins graded higher across the entire population of 54 total submissions. The coin displays the hallmark characteristics of exceptional Philadelphia Mint production for this period. The strike is sharp and well-defined throughout, with the obverse showing Liberty's form in crisp detail and the reverse eagle rendered with full definition. The surfaces exhibit the frosty, fully lustrous appearance typical of the finest examples from this issue, with excellent eye appeal and original mint luster. Composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, this half dollar retains its full silver content and original weight of 12.5 grams. The reeded edge remains sharp and well-preserved. As one of the final dates in Adolph Alexander Weinman's iconic Walking Liberty series, the 1946 holds particular significance for type collectors and series specialists seeking to complete their collections with superior examples.
