Description

1936 Texas Commemorative Half Dollar, MS68. This exceptional 1936-P Texas Commemorative Half Dollar represents one of the finest examples of this popular silver commemorative issue. Struck by the Philadelphia Mint and graded MS68 by PCGS (Cert. #46864613), this coin displays the outstanding quality that characterizes the best examples of this series. Designed by renowned sculptor Pompeo Coppini, the obverse features an eagle in flight while the reverse depicts an eagle perched on a shield, both rendered with excellent detail and artistic merit. The Texas commemoratives from 1935-1936 maintain strong collector appeal, and this particular specimen exemplifies why. Of the 8,911 coins originally distributed at the issue price of $1.50, the vast majority were carefully preserved, resulting in excellent survival rates across multiple grades. This coin exhibits the characteristic frosty luster and exceptional eye appeal typical of the finest examples. With a population of just 2 coins graded higher and only 17 total examples certified, this MS68 represents an exceptionally scarce specimen in the upper echelon of the grade scale. Struck in 90% silver with 10% copper and weighing 12.5 grams, this half dollar retains its original reeded edge and full mint luster. The MS68 grade places this coin among the elite representatives of the issue, making it an outstanding acquisition for the serious commemorative collector or registry set builder.
