Description
1903 Morgan Dollar, Philadelphia Mint, PCGS MS67. This exceptional example of the 1903 Philadelphia Morgan Dollar represents one of the finest specimens of this relatively common date. Graded PCGS MS67 (Certificate #56516050), this coin exhibits the superior striking quality and brilliant surfaces that characterize the best examples from this prolific year. With a mintage of 4,652,000 pieces, the 1903-P is among the most available Morgan dollars, yet superb examples in MS67 grade remain notably scarce and represent the last truly accessible high grade for this issue. The coin displays the hallmark characteristics noted by numismatic authorities: excellent high point detail, smooth satin surfaces with minimal abrasions, and brilliant luster. Struck from the C-4 reverse hub, this specimen showcases the sharp striking quality typical of Philadelphia's 1903 production. The 90% silver composition and reeded edge are consistent with standard Morgan dollar specifications of the era. Population data underscores the rarity of this grade: PCGS has certified only 40 examples grading MS67 or finer out of 217 total certified examples of this date. While Mint State specimens became more readily available following Treasury releases in the mid-1950s and early 1960s, gems grading MS65 and above remain considerably scarcer than lower Mint State grades. This coin represents a significant opportunity to acquire a premium example of this historically important issue at the accessible pinnacle of the grade scale.
