Description
1903 Morgan Dollar, Philadelphia Mint, PCGS MS67. This exceptional 1903 Philadelphia Morgan Dollar represents one of the finest examples of this highly collected date. Graded PCGS MS67 (Certificate #55907831), this coin exhibits the superior striking quality and brilliant surfaces characteristic of the 1903 Philadelphia coinage. Composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, the piece displays the hallmark attributes that have made this date a favorite among Morgan dollar enthusiasts: sharp high-point definition, smooth satin surfaces, and minimal abrasions. The 1903-P is notable for its impressive overall quality among Philadelphia Mint Morgan dollars. With a mintage of 4,652,000 coins, the date remained relatively scarce in Mint State condition until Treasury releases in the mid-1950s and early 1960s made examples more available to collectors. Despite these releases, gems grading MS67 and above remain decidedly scarce, with only 40 examples graded finer by PCGS out of 217 total certified. MS67 appears to represent the last readily accessible grade for this issue, making this coin particularly desirable for advanced collectors seeking high-quality representatives of the series. Designed by George T. Morgan, this coin features the obverse portrait of Lady Liberty and the reverse eagle that defined the Morgan dollar series (1878-1921). The coin's reeded edge, standard weight of 26.73 grams, and 38.1mm diameter confirm its authenticity and proper specifications. This is an outstanding example for the collector seeking premium-quality Philadelphia Mint Morgan dollars of the early 20th century.
