Description

1948-S Lincoln Cent, MS67 Red, PCGS. This exceptional 1948-S cent represents a premium example of San Francisco Mint coinage from the post-war era. Struck from the standard wartime composition of 95% copper with 5% tin and zinc, this piece displays the brilliant *Red* designation that collectors actively seek in early Lincoln cents. Designed by Victor David Brenner, the coin exhibits the classic obverse portrait of Abraham Lincoln and reverse wheat ears that defined the series from 1909 through 1958. The coin has been certified by PCGS with a grade of MS67, reflecting exceptional eye appeal and preservation for this issue. With only 2 coins graded higher across the entire population of 95 pieces certified, this example ranks among the finest known survivors of the date and mintmark combination. The original lustrous surfaces and careful strike quality evident in this specimen demonstrate the quality control maintained at the San Francisco Mint during 1948 production. The 1948-S is notable for its substantial mintage of over 81 million pieces, yet examples of this caliber in full red condition remain remarkably elusive to collectors. This MS67 example represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire a high-grade representative of late-series Lincoln cent production, particularly appealing to specialists pursuing complete sets or those focused on premium San Francisco Mint coinage.
