Description
1884-CC Morgan Dollar, PCGS MS-66. This 1884-CC Morgan Dollar represents a popular and historically significant example from the Carson City Mint, one of the most sought-after mintmarks in the entire Morgan Dollar series. Despite being one of the more common dates overall with a mintage of 1,136,000 pieces, the CC designation commands a substantial collector premium due to the limited output of the Carson City facility and the iconic status of its coinage. The piece is graded PCGS MS-66, placing it solidly in the gem category and well above the typical MS-64 and MS-63 grades that dominate the surviving population. The coin exhibits the classic design by George T. Morgan, featuring Lady Liberty on the obverse and an eagle with shield on the reverse. Struck in the standard composition of 90% silver and 10% copper, the coin weighs 26.73 grams and measures 38.1mm in diameter with a reeded edge. The MS-66 grade reflects exceptional eye appeal and preservation, with most 1884-CC dollars tracing their survival to the famous Treasury hoard discovered in the 1960s and distributed to collectors throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s. Gems in MS-67 and higher grades become notably scarce, with PCGS records indicating only three examples certified at the MS-68 level as of 2011. The present coin's MS-66 grade positions it among approximately 703 examples graded higher than this level, making it a desirable specimen for the intermediate to advanced collector seeking quality and eye appeal. An excellent opportunity to acquire a premium Carson City Morgan Dollar.
