Description
1966 5C SMS, CA. This exceptional 1966 SMS (Special Mint Set) nickel represents one of the finest examples of this scarce issue. Special Mint Set coins were produced in limited quantities during 1965-1967 as premium alternatives to standard circulation coinage, featuring superior striking and finish quality. The 1966 nickel from this program is particularly sought after by collectors of modern U.S. coinage. Graded NGC MS-68, this specimen displays outstanding luster and strike characteristics consistent with SMS production standards. The high technical grade reflects exceptional preservation and eye appeal, with minimal imperfections visible under magnification. Coins of this caliber represent the upper echelon of 1966 SMS nickels and are increasingly difficult to locate in the current market. The SMS program has gained considerable collector recognition in recent years, with early examples commanding premium prices relative to their circulation-struck counterparts. This piece would serve as an excellent addition to any advanced nickel collection or specialized SMS holding. *NGC Certificate #8294493034*
