Description
# 1874-CC Liberty Head Eagle $10 Gold Coin. An exceptional Carson City Mint specimen of the highly coveted 1874-CC *Liberty Head Eagle*, representing a pinnacle of numismatic rarity from the legendary Nevada mint. This PCGS VF-45 example offers collectors a remarkable opportunity to acquire a significant piece of Western United States coinage history. Struck during a pivotal year for the Carson City Mint, this $10 gold piece bears the distinctive "CC" mintmark, signifying its origin at the storied Nevada mint. With a modest original mintage of just 16,767 pieces, the 1874-CC Eagle is among the scarcest issues of its era. Numismatic research suggests this date is marginally rarer than even the celebrated 1871-CC and 1877-CC Eagles, making it an extraordinary acquisition for advanced collectors. The coin exhibits the characteristic Liberty Head design by Christian Gobrecht, featuring a left-facing Liberty wearing a coronet, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original states. The reverse displays the heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, a classic motif of mid-19th century American coinage. Composed of 90% gold and 10% copper, the coin weighs 16.7 grams and measures 26.8mm in diameter, with a traditional reeded edge. Population Data: PCGS has graded only 47 examples of this date, with merely 40 coins existing in higher grades. This VF-45 specimen represents a significant opportunity for collectors seeking a well-preserved example of this challenging Carson City issue. The coin's surfaces demonstrate typical characteristics of its grade, with moderate wear that still preserves significant design details and original mint luster.
