Description

1947-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar, PCGS MS-67. The final year of the iconic Walking Liberty half dollar series, this 1947-D represents the conclusion of one of numismatics' most beloved designs. Struck at the Denver Mint with a mintage of 3,900,600 pieces, this example has been certified by PCGS as MS-67, placing it among the finest survivors of this issue. With only 22 coins graded higher and just 127 total specimens certified across all grades, this represents a notably scarce piece in premium condition. Composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, this half dollar displays the exceptional eye appeal characteristic of well-preserved examples from this final production year. The coin exhibits the bright, white luster and sharp strike typical of the best specimens from the 1947-D mintage. Among the seven Denver Mint Walking Liberty half dollars produced during the 1940s, this date is particularly elusive in MS-66 or finer condition, making high-grade examples increasingly difficult to acquire. Walking Liberty halves from 1941-1947 were frequently saved in rolls by the public, yet the 1947-D remains notably scarce in premium grades. This PCGS MS-67 example (Cert. #58330224) combines historical significance as the final year of issue with genuine rarity in this elevated condition, making it an essential piece for serious collectors of the series.
