Description
1936-P Walking Liberty Half Dollar, MS67. This MS67-graded example of the 1936-P Walking Liberty Half Dollar represents a superior specimen of this popular issue. Designed by the renowned Adolph Alexander Weinman, this iconic half dollar showcases the artistic merit that defined the Walking Liberty series from 1916 to 1947. The coin displays the characteristic white frosty luster and exceptional strike quality typical of this date, with well-defined details across both obverse and reverse. The 1936 stands as the highest mintage Walking Liberty Half Dollar produced between 1917 and 1940, with an impressive mintage of 12,614,000 pieces from the Philadelphia Mint. Despite its large original production, the 1936 remains notably scarcer in high grades compared to the subsequent 1940s Philadelphia issues, as fewer coins were preserved by the roll during the 1930s. This MS67 example places it well above the typical mint state survivor, with only 74 examples graded finer across all populations of 301 total graded specimens, making it a genuinely desirable example of this accessible yet underappreciated date. Composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, this 12.5-gram coin retains its full original weight and reeded edge. An excellent addition to any Walking Liberty collection, particularly for those seeking quality in a common date. PCGS Certificate #58952712
