Description
1938-D Oregon Commemorative Half Dollar, MS67. This handsome 1938-D Oregon half dollar represents one of the most accessible issues in the Oregon commemorative series. Designed by the renowned sculptors James Earle Fraser and Laura Gardin Fraser, this silver commemorative was struck at the Denver Mint with a modest mintage of just 6,005 pieces. Composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, the coin displays the classic weight and dimensions of the commemorative half dollar standard. The present example has been graded MS67 by PCGS (Certificate #10172701), placing it solidly in the Gem category and above the series average of MS64-MS66. While the 1938-D is the most common of the three Oregon issues produced that year, examples in this grade represent the upper echelon of the population. According to PCGS records, only 120 coins have graded higher, with 328 total submissions recorded for the date and mintmark. The coin exhibits bold striking and attractive satiny luster characteristic of well-preserved examples from this issue. Circulated examples of the 1938-D Oregon are virtually non-existent, making this Gem specimen particularly desirable for both type collectors and specialists pursuing the complete Oregon commemorative set. The combination of historical significance, manageable rarity, and exceptional eye appeal makes this an excellent addition to any silver commemorative collection.
