Description
1929-D Mercury Dime, FB, PCGS MS67. This exceptional 1929-D dime represents a significant example from the Denver Mint's production during the final years of the Mercury dime series. Struck in the standard composition of 90% silver and 10% copper, this piece exhibits the characteristic design by renowned sculptor Adolph Alexander Weinman, featuring Lady Liberty on the obverse and the fasces reverse that has captivated collectors for over a century. The FB designation indicates this specimen displays full bands on the fasces, a condition that is notably scarce on Mercury dimes and particularly desirable to specialists in the series. The PCGS grade of MS67 places this coin among the finest known examples, with only 16 coins graded higher across the entire population of 57 certified pieces. This exceptional preservation is remarkable for a circulating issue from the Denver Mint, where quality control and striking characteristics often resulted in softer details compared to other facilities. The 1929-D carries a mintage of 5,034,000 pieces, yet high-grade survivors with full bands remain elusive. This combination of superior technical quality, desirable FB designation, and strong eye appeal makes this coin an outstanding addition to any Mercury dime collection or silver type set.
